My England Team Selection

Wembley Stadium, London

England V Ukraine, World Cup Match

So we won our last match 4-0 and looked as though we had a world winner in Wayne Rooney and a solid defence, but lets not get carried away as Slovakia are not exactly the top of the crop in international football.

Now we get to the serious end of football, the World Cup qualifiers and we all know what happened at the Euro qualifiers so this time there can be no room for mistakes.

I belive we have a resonable squad that should be able to win the game against the ukrine’s but it would be nice to do it with flair, pace and style.

Below is my selection from the current England squad of who the starting eleven should be.

England First Team:

David James (Goalkeeper): Playing well for his club and I have always liked him since being at Liverpool, has his dodgy moments but so do outfield players.

Glen Johnson (Right Back): Personally I think his defencive game has drooped since going to Pompy but he has scored a few goals and has experience so gets my nod.

Matthew Upson (Centre back): Wouldn’t be my first choice but hes a good  stand in for Rio Ferdinand.

John Terry (Centre back): Always reliable, just don’t let him take a penalty!! looking forward to seeing him and Torres in Champions League battles again!!

Ashley Cole(Left back): A favorite of mine but needs to get some top form back.

Aaron Lennon (Right wing): Has Pace to burn but needs support from his team-mates to boost his confidence, still needs to improve on that final ball.

Frank Lampard (Centre Midfield): Again another proven player, too much talk about him and Gerrard not being able to play together, if Mourinho wanted Gerrard at Chelsea he would have had them in the same team so whats the problem? Play him pushing forward.

Michael Carrick (Centre Midfield): Only one of a few Man Utd players I like! Superb passing long or short, I would play him sitting deep spreading balls down the wings and looking for the killer ball through the middle of the defence.

Shaun Wright-Phillips (Left Midfield): Like Lennon he has Pace to burn and again needs support from his team-mates to boost his confidence, I think he has improved loads from his spell at Chelsea and hes looking as though he is enjoying his football again.

Steven Gerrard (2nd Forward): Would be my first choice for centre midfield but with so many injuries to the front men I would put Gerrard behind Rooney like he plays at Liverpool with Torres. Who better to pick the ball up 30yards from goal?

Wayne Rooney (Striker): Like Gerrard he doesn’t like staying put in one spot but needs to be up top were he can do the real damage, just needs to show more discipline in his position so it doesn’t upset the balance of the team.

Carlton Cole

Peter Crouch

Ben Foster

David Beckham

Stewart Downing
