Capello: Pleased with win

England coach Fabio Capello was pleased with his team’s movement in the convincing 4-0 friendly win over Slovakia.

Capello’s side warmed up for Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in the ideal manner with a dominant display at Wembley.

Emile Heskey opened the scoring early on before Wayne Rooney netted twice in the second half to sandwich a goal from Frank Lampard.

“We played very well, we scored four goals and I think also the crowd was happy after the game and also during the game,” Capello said,

“We had a lot of chances to score goals and the performance of the players was very good.

“I liked the movement without the ball and the movement of the team when we go forward. There were a lot of things to like.”

Rooney picked up the man-of-the-match award for his performance and Capello praised the display of the Manchester United striker.

Capello was also pleased with how Rooney combined with Gerrard, with the two players interchanging positions throughout the game.

The England boss added: “I am very happy for him. He played very well, scored two goals and is a very important player for us.

“His movement with Steven Gerrard was very good, both when we were attacking and defending and I was delighted.”

Though England currently have a 100 per cent record in qualifying, Capello is not expecting an easy assignment against Ukraine.

“Ukraine are a good team,” he said.

“When they drew against Croatia they defended very well. It will not be any easier for us.”

Darren Bent has been called into the England squad for Wednesday’s 2010 World Cup qualifier with Ukraine at Wembley.
